Alex Ashe   Technical Advisor - Farmlands Te Puna  24-year-old Alex has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science Majoring in Horticulture at Massey University. He now works as a Technical Advisor at Farmlands Tauranga/Te Puna where he is passionate about helping growers on a daily basis. Alex applied to compete in the Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower competition because he enjoys taking on a good challenge and the opportunity to develop new skills. Alex also wishes to become more invested in the industry to promote horticulture as a career to younger generations. and he feels that this is a great opportunity to do so. Outside of work he enjoys motorbike riding and hunting.

24-year-old Alex has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science Majoring in Horticulture at Massey University. Andrew Jenkins   Orchard Cadet - Seeka Ltd  21-year-old Andrew started his Orchard Cadetship with Seeka in January 2016. Since then, he has developed many skills on the orchard, from picking and harvesting through to machinery operations and team supervision. Andrew has completed his Level 4 Certificate in Horticulture and is currently working towards a Horticulture Diploma through Fruition Horticulture. Andrew is entering the competition to increase his knowledge of the industry and test his skills against other future leaders. Andrew prides himself in critical thinking and has a good understanding of technology, and how he may integrate these into his daily orchard tasks to increase productivity.

Orchard Cadet - Seeka Ltd

21-year-old Andrew started his Orchard Cadetship with Seeka in January 2016. Since then, he has developed many skills on the orchard, from picking and harvesting through to machinery operations and team supervision. Andrew has completed his Level 4 Certificate in Horticulture and is currently working towards a Horticulture Diploma through Fruition Horticulture. Andrew is entering the competition to increase his knowledge of the industry and test his skills against other future leaders. Dylan Wadsworth   Orchard Manager - Baygold  21-year-old Dylan was born and raised in the Bay of Plenty region and has recently completed his Diploma in Horticulture at Lincoln University. He is passionate about the kiwifruit industry and is currently managing a developing block for Baygold. Dylan wants to be involved in this competition to meet new people, learn new skills and see how he can further his career. Outside of work, Dylan is a keen sportsman and he loves the outdoors.

Emily Crum   Orchard Manager - Prospa (EastPack) Te Puke  23-year-old Emily grew up in Whangarei where she was immersed in the kiwifruit industry, so kiwifruit has always been in Emily’s DNA. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Science, she started as a cadet with Prospa (EastPack) in 2016 and worked her way up the ranks to become an Orchard Manager. Through entering the BOP Young Fruit Grower competition, Emily hopes to broaden her knowledge and skills in areas she doesn’t necessarily use day-to-day. Outside of work you would find Emily running trails, mountain biking, driving and just enjoying the outdoors.

Georgia Guy-Williams   Laboratory Manager / Inventory Assistant - Apata Group   29-year-old Georgia works as a Laboratory Manager and Inventory Assistant at Apata Group Ltd. Georgia holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Statistics. During her studies, Georgia spent two seasons working on a berry farm doing jobs such as supervising strawberry pickers and running a small eight-person packhouse. After her studies and a short interlude in a microbiology lab, she upsized to the kiwifruit industry where she worked on and off in the orchard doing various tasks which eventually lead to her current job managing the lab at Apata.

Hamish McKain   Avocado Manager / Production Manager - DMS Progrowers  28-year-old Hamish has a Management Degree in Human Resources and Marketing and is currently an Avocado Manager at DMS in Te Puna. Hamish placed second runner up the Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower Competition in 2018, and as he enjoyed the challenge and meeting new people so much, he decided to return to give it another shot. Hamish is a very sporty individual and when he is not playing competitive sport, he is at home working on his avocado orchard.

Avocado Manager / Production Manager - DMS Progrowers

28-year-old Hamish has a Management Degree in Human Resources and Marketing and is currently an Avocado Manager at DMS in Te Puna. Hamish placed second runner up the Bay of Plenty Young Fruit Grower Competition in 2018, and as he enjoyed the challenge and meeting new people so much, he decided to return to give it another shot. Hamish is a very sporty individual and when he is not playing competitive sport, he is at home working on his avocado orchard.

Megan Fox   Orchard Technical Advisor - Southern Cross Horticulture  23-year-old Megan discovered a love for horticulture early in Year 9. From there, she pursued horticultural studies at Massey University where her teachers fostered her passion. Ranjit Singh   Orchard Manager - Weskco   28-year-old Ranjit Singh comes from a farming family in India. Having grown up in the outdoors is one of the main reasons he loves working in horticulture and agriculture. Ranjit has a Diploma in Business Management and started working part time on a kiwifruit orchard during his study Ranjit’s part-time job and his diploma has helped build his career. For the past three years he has been an Orchard Manager and enjoys planning and coordinating the production of crops. Ranjit entered the competition because he believes competition is always a good thing, “it forces us to do our best”.
